Character Series: THE iDOLM@STER Timeline: Post-Episode 13 Canon Resource Links: (character wiki) ; (general wiki) Personality Basically, she's a tsundere. Iori is an idol from 765 Productions, and leader of Ryuuguu Komachi. She is overly sweet and overly polite towards strangers and fans, though it's just an act she puts on. In reality, Iori is rude, condescending, spoiled, and prone to snapping at people if she doesn't get her way. She'll "punish" those who rub her the wrong way. She even disrespects people who are older than her, using terms like "anta" (a rude way of saying "you") for everyone she talks to. Iori is very bossy. Whether it's in her idol group or with her friends, she always tries to be the boss and guide them around. She also tries to boss the Producer into getting things for her. Why? Because she's a "perfect princess-type" idol AND she's rich she can get what she wants! She definitely believes that the Producer should feel so grateful for getting to treat a famous star like herself! She can be extremely stubborn and tends to complain, as she is used to getting her way due to her family's rich background. She has an inflated sense of herself, in that she pretty much thinks she's Better than everyone (as she always refers to herself as a "Super Idol" or "Everyone's Idol"). She usually calls people "commoners" to add emphasis to her status. However, Iori isn't very honest with her feelings, which isn't a surprise for her archetype. Though she's rude and straightforward, she isn't evil or mean-spirited. She can be nice, but it's tough for her to express her true feelings. Why? Because it's embarrassing for her. She doesn't like to show people her soft and vulnerable side and she has trouble thanking people. She doesn't like to rely on others unless she has to, since it also embarrasses her to ask for help. Her compliments tend to be indirect because she can't outright say it. And when she is complimented or praised by someone she likes (such as the Producer), she's happy but quickly flustered. She will stick up for her friends as well. For example, she took it upon herself to straighten out a rival idol group's producer when he was trying to play dirty and cheat. Despite complaining most of the time, she finally got serious in a competition when Makoto got injured because of her. Another example is when she gets mad about President Kuroi, knowing Chihaya was uncomfortable in his presence but wouldn't say anything about it. She acted up for Chihaya's sake anyway. Iori's actions speak much louder than her words, usually revealing her intentions. It's her indirect way of being nice to her friends. Due to her family being extremely wealthy, Iori was alone most of the time when growing up. She had butlers and maids, but they weren't real friends to her, only flattering her or lecturing her. She had no one to talk to about her problems, which is the true source of her communication trouble. Iori is actually very lonely inside. She doesn't know how to act around real people, despite all her wealth and connections. Her only friend growing up is the stuffed rabbit doll she always carries around. He's been with her since she was a child. But even though she always carries it around, she never tells anyone his real name because it's Top Secret! Therefore she usually tries to trick people into thinking it's a very elaborate name, showing a sly, teasing side of herself. She can be a little mischievous when she wants. In truth, Iori has kind of a complex. Her two older brothers are both very intelligent and successful in the world. She's always being compared to them by her family and their friends, criticized for being lazy and spoiled. Thus she wanted to prove to them that she could do her own work. To her, that was becoming an Idol. Being an Idol was like becoming a Princess in her eyes. But her family, specifically her father, thinks being an Idol is silly. They don't believe she could actually do it. Their disbelief in her ability and Iori's pride motivates her to work hard. Becoming Top Idol (the highest award for an Idol in canon) means getting their respect. Despite her difficult attitude, she likes people who are honest and genuine, which is probably why Yayoi is her closest friend. People who are fake and underhanded earn her disdain, such as President Kuroi. Over the course of the anime series, Iori learns to cooperate with her friends and work together as a group, even with Miki, who she isn't that fond of for the nickname Miki gives her all the time. In the end, Iori takes her job seriously, despite whatever excuse she says. When she puts her mind to it, she can accomplish anything.
